Clown Church LA
Clown Church LA · The Flagship Practice

No white makeup. No dogma. The only thing that might get scared is your ego

Clown Church is a weekly gathering in Highland Park where we practice getting out of our heads together. An hour of guided breath, music, movement, and play that leaves you lighter, more connected, and usually still laughing on the drive home. It's church in the two ways that matter (community and flow) and none of the ways that don't. Founded by Jet Eveleth in 2019, it helped spark the clown renaissance the LA Times, Slate, and New York Magazine have been writing about. No experience needed. Come unprepared, and learn to play again.

What actually happens

An hour, in four movements

Nobody performs, nobody is put on the spot, and there is no way to do it wrong. Here's the honest walkthrough:

Arrive & die (gently)

You find a spot on the floor and, yes, pretend to be dead. It sounds strange and it's the fastest way ever invented to drop the week off your shoulders.

Resurrect to music

Music brings the body back to life before the mind can object. Movement comes from impulse, not choreography, eyes mostly closed.

Play together

Simple, mostly wordless games with the group. Eye contact, laughter, small discoveries. The clown is just the lightest, most honest part of you.

Leave lighter

A closing circle, then back into the world more present than you arrived, with a room full of people who are no longer strangers.

Two ways to practice

Come weekly. Go deeper monthly.

Before you come

The three questions everyone asks

Do I need any experience?

None. There's nothing to prepare, nothing to memorize, and no way to do it wrong. "Please come unprepared" is the only instruction, and it's a real one.

Is it actually religious?

No. "Church" here means the two good parts: community and a shared practice that leaves you feeling more alive. No white makeup, no dogma, all faiths and no faith welcome.

What do I wear and bring?

Clothes you can move and lie on the floor in, and water. That's the whole packing list.

Come unprepared. Leave lighter.

One hour a week. The lightest version of you, back on speaking terms.
